Isabel Bayrakdarian, Michael Schade, Russel Braun - Three of Canada’s most outstanding Mozart singers, Bayrakdarian (soprano), Schade (tenor) and Braun (baritone), are recognized for their many Mozart roles and interpretations, among them: Bayrakdarian as Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro; Schade as Tamino in The Magic Flute and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, and Braun as the Count in The Marriage of Figaro, and title role of Don Giovanni.

After her critically acclaimed performances in Robert Carsen’s production of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice last season, Ms. Bayrakdarian will return to the Lyric Opera of Chicago to sing the role of Blanche in Carsen’s production of Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites. Ms. Bayrakdarian will be joined by a star-studded cast that includes Felicity Palmer and Patricia Racette. The production, from the Netherlands Opera, will receive its Chicago debut on February 17 and be conducted by Sir Andrew Davis.

Recitals and Concerts |

A prolific recitalist, Ms. Bayrakdarian will perform an extensive recital tour with her piano partner and husband Serouj Kradjian, which will include stops in Tokyo (Oct. 21), Mexico City (March 22), Palm Beach, FL (March 28) and Savannah, GA (March 30). On January 14 she performs a recital at New York’s newest small concert venue, the Gilder Lehrmann Hall in the Morgan Library & Museum. The recital is presented by the George London Foundation, which honored Ms. Bayrakdarian earlier in her career with its coveted Leonie Rysanek award. The foundation is named for Mr. London, the great Canadian bass, and presents annual concerts as well as a gala at which prizes are awarded. |

Previous Season Highlights |

In opera, Ms. Bayrakdarian traveled to the many of the great opera houses of the world paying tribute to Mozart in his 250th birthday anniversary year. She opened the Metropolitan Opera’s 2005-06 season singing Susanna opposite Susan Graham’s Cherubino in Act I of Le Nozze di Figaro at the opening-night gala, and she took the same role to Houston and to London for her Covent Garden debut. In Chicago, Ms. Bayrakdarian sang the role of Euridice in the celebrated new Robert Carsen production of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. Ms. Bayrakdarian completed her 2005-06 season in Mozart’s home town of Salzburg where she sang the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni.
Miss Bayrakdarian also performed extensive recital tours with pianist Serouj Kradjian, and was co-host of the first annual Opera News Awards alongside actor Sam Waterston.

A long Journey Home |

Most notable was the release of the documentary A Long Journey Home, which follows Ms. Bayrakdarian through a series of concerts and appearances during her first trip to visit her ancestral home, Armenia. The film – which was nominated for a Gemini award, the highest honor given by the Canadian Academy of Film and Television Arts – was aired on the CBC in January 2006, and features pianist Serouj Kradjian, the Komitas String Quartet and the Yerevan Chamber Choir, amongst others.
