Pamina at the Met

One of the world’s most beloved singers of Mozart’s ingénues, the Canadian-Armenian soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian, will open the season singing her Metropolitan Opera role debut as Pamina in Julie Taymor’s celebrated production of Die Zauberflöte (Oct. 7, 9, 13).  Bayrakdarian’s appearances at the Metropolitan Opera follow an illustrious season of Mozart’s 250th birthday celebrations, including her debut at London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden singing Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, and a return to the Salzburg Festival singing the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni. “Isabel Bayrakdarian makes a sparkling Covent Garden debut as Susanna,” raved The Times. “The Canadian-Armenian soprano’s portrayal is bubbly, brave and resourceful, and she uses her darkly tinted soprano to delicious effect in both aria and recitative.”
